Licorice extract is a component with medicinal value extracted from licorice. Licorice extract generally contains: glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizin flavonoids, hindbutyropitannin, prickly mangosteen, quercetin, etc. It is yellow to brownish yellow powder. It has the effects of tonifying the spleen and benefiting the qi, clearing heat and detoxifying, dispelling phlegm and relieving cough, relieving urgency and pain, and harmonizing all medicines. It is used to treat weakness of the spleen and stomach, tiredness and weakness, palpitation and shortness of breath, cough with phlegm, pain in the abdomen and extremities.
Its effect is reflected in two aspects: whitening and sun protection
The whitening effect of licorice extract is mainly through inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase and dopa pigment interchangease (TRP-2) and blocking the polymerization of 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHl), thus preventing the formation of melanin, thus achieving the effect of skin whitening.
Among licorice extracts, the components with sunscreen effectiveness are generally flavonoid compounds. Due to the conjugation of the molecular structure of licorice flavonoids, they show strong absorption of both ultraviolet and visible light. Molecules that absorb high-energy UV light jump from the ground state to the activated state, and then return from the activated state to the ground state, releasing harmless low-energy rays. Compared to synthetic sunscreens, licorice extracts used as sunscreens do not require the addition of antioxidants to the formulation, do not irritate the skin, and have a high capacity for stable absorption.
